Maryland offers a tax credit program for buyers and for homeowners who make $60,000 and under and whose property taxes exceed a certain percentage of that person’s total gross income.
I worked with buyers last year who applied for this tax credit prior to settlement and brought a check to the table to apply towards their closing costs.
Better still, this tax credit can work for homeowners regardless of how long they’ve owned their house. There are other requirements. This is, after all, a program designed to help those who have a financial need for the tax credit. But if you qualify, it’s definitely worth applying for.
